Convert tools for Garmin Training Center

I am the owner (happy) of a , but rather quickly noted that the product quality was not reproduced on the software which accompanies it.

Even if the main basic functionalities are present, the Training Center tool is missing export features towards market standards, mainly GPX and the KML, respectively an exchange format between GPS products and a representation format for Google Earth.

On one hand, there are some small bugs but not blocking, on the other hand, exporting towards GPX is annoying when missing and used to exchange traces with the community or other equipment. I thus write the few translators available here below, from the internal format of Garmin Training Center towards both GPX and KML as well as a GPX to race translator. They are written in Perl and thus easily executable on the majority of the operating systems of the market, natively on Mac OS X and Linux, but requiring Cygwin installation on Windows.

[update May the 19th 2007] Received by email from Brian Davis (Denver, Colorado) this is a corrected version of the GPX to CRS converter, for the new 3.2 release of the Training Center 3.2 : GPS-GPX_to_Garmin_Course_TCX.pl this script uses the Tcl/Tk extension for Windows, if you want my original script modified : convert-gpx-to-crs-3.2.pl.

If you like these tools, please let me know.

    Hi Alex,

I’m interested in a “history to GPX converter (hst to gpx”, can I get an exe file for it?

Great stuff. Where did you find the info on the file formats?

Any chance of putting a gpx to tcx script up?

or how about tcx to crs / crs to tcx

    thx

    Hi,

did you also see the online converter on GPSies.com? It converts tcx to crs / crs to tcx.

    Cheers, Max

    Hi!
I had the same problem… So I wrote a crs to kml converter in Java. If someone is interested in this tool, tell me.

    Hi there
I am interested in a utility that goes the other way. I have access to a lot of MTB trail info in kML or KMZ format that I want to load into the Edge 305 so I may follow the route.
    Any body done this?
    cheers

    Hi

There seem to be loads of KML bike routes to download, but I can’t find a way of getting this onto my Edge 305 GPS.

Does anyone know how to do this? Alternatively do you know of a Mac application that can convert the KML file to a GPX?

    thanks guys.

    Hi,

What’s with the check for lat/lon > 0 (convert-hst-to-kml.pl, line 79)? According to my Edge 305 history, I’m at longitude -77. So no points get recorded. I set the check to lat/lon != 0 and things seem fine. Can you clarify?

Thanks for writing this tool. Very helpful!

    Steve
