Central selector for elevator

Started some weeks ago, in the Credit Lyonnais tower in Lyon (France), aka “the pen”, we cannot anymore choose the target floor in the elevator but have to plan the trip onto a simple keyboard at the lobby and each floor. Once the floor is selected, the elevator id is printed on the screen. You just have to go to the appropriate elevator and it will stop at your floor.

The idea is disruptive in the way people use elevators for a very long time. It also allow a quicker and smoother traffic flow since an elevator should not stop at each floor, it is “programmed” to stop only at few of these. In addition we could imagine a next step with a strong authentication of the building users which selects automatically the floor they should go.

We will see in the future if this solution is installed by default on other places, from now on I am personally satisfied from a usage point of view.
